Tolantongo entrance fee and costs

The park itself is cheap. The catch is that everything inside is paid in cash, and there is no ATM. Here is what you pay at the gate and once you are in.

Grutas Tolantongo is run by the local community, and its prices are low: a day ticket costs less than lunch in Mexico City. What surprises visitors is the cash: entry, the shuttle, food, lockers and the zip line are all paid in pesos.

Park prices below come from the park's own 2026 price page and the live tour listings. An older banner on the park's homepage still shows 150 or 200 pesos, so treat 230 as the current figure and carry a little extra.

The quick answer

The Tolantongo entrance fee is 230 pesos per person per day in 2026, valid from 7 AM to 8 PM that day. Children under 5 enter free, and from age 5 they pay full price. Everything is cash only and there is no ATM inside. Most tours include the entry; the cheapest one does not.

How much is the Tolantongo entrance fee in 2026?

Is Tolantongo cash only?

Yes: every payment inside the park is cash, and there are no ATMs on site.

Bring enough pesos from Mexico City, in small notes, for the shuttle, lunch, snacks, lockers and anything else you want. Guests repeat it in reviews: take cash, because cards are not accepted. Keep it in a waterproof pouch, since you will be in the water most of the day.

What does the entrance ticket include?

Both sections of the park: the cave, the tunnel, the thermal river, the cliffside pools, the waterfalls, the hanging bridge and the trails.

The lower section, La Gruta, has the river, the cave and the tunnel; the upper section, Paraíso Escondido, has the terraced pools. The shuttle between them and the zip line cost extra. See Tolantongo vs La Gloria if you are unsure which park you are buying.

Is the ticket valid for 24 hours?

No: the ticket is valid only from 7 AM to 8 PM on the day you buy it.

If you stay overnight in the park, you pay entry again for the next day. The park lists the cave, tunnel, waterfalls and swimming pools as open 8 AM to 5 PM, with the river and some thermal pools open later, so be at the cave before 5 PM.

Do children pay to enter Tolantongo?

Children under 5 enter free; from age 5 they pay the full adult price.

On tours, child and teen prices depend on the operator, and the age bands show at checkout. The flagship tour, for example, has a separate youth rate for 14 to 17 year olds.

How much should you budget for the day?

On top of a tour that includes the entry, plan for lunch, the shuttle, water shoes and snacks; add 230 pesos per person if your tour does not include the entry.

Lunch at the park's simple restaurants is modest by Mexico City standards, but carry more than you think: guests who ran out of cash had nowhere to get more. Add about 300 pesos per person for the zip line if you want it.

Is the entrance fee included in Tolantongo tours?

On most tours, yes; the budget small group from $79 is the main exception.

The flagship full day, the early small-group tour, the private day and the La Gloria tour all include park entry. Compare them in Tolantongo tours from Mexico City.

Want the entry sorted? The early small-group tour includes park tickets and beats the crowds.
